Colin Wayne Mare
Colin Wayne Mare is a contemporary multidisciplinary artist and maker based in Kempton Park, South Africa, specialising in laser-cut art that transforms industrial precision into intricate, tactile works.
Working primarily with CO₂ laser technology, Colin combines digital vector illustration with organic and contemporary materials, including sustainably sourced plywood, acrylic, paper, MDF and leather.
His signature style explores wood in motion, geometric abstraction, architectural mandalas and layered narrative relief sculpture. He uses the laser cutter not merely as a production tool, but as a fine-art medium through which he explores depth, shadow, texture and negative space.
By stacking, etching and hand-assembling millimetre-precise components, Colin bridges the divide between the precision of digital technology and the warmth of traditional craftsmanship. The result is work that combines technical accuracy with a distinctly human, handcrafted character.
A self-taught artist with an old-school approach to craftsmanship, Colin has exhibited his work at B Gallery in Klerksdorp. Through his studio practice, he continues to explore and expand the sculptural possibilities of laser-cut wood and intricately etched surfaces.
Looking ahead to 2027, Colin is developing a new collectors' series of limited-edition works, with each design restricted to just 50 individually produced pieces.
Redefining the boundaries between digital precision, craftsmanship and contemporary art.
